Home School Community Liaison Scheme (HSCL)
“When schools, families and community groups work together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and like school more.” Anne Henderson & Karen Mapp.
The Home School Community Liaison Scheme (HSCL) was established nationally in 1990. In 2022, we were very fortunate that the scheme was introduced to us here in Coláiste Bríde.
My name is Eleanor Harpur, and I am the HSCL (Home School Community Liaison) Co-ordinator in the school.
Role of the HSCL Coordinator.
My role involves providing the necessary help and support to parents/guardians while at the same time strengthening the relations between school and home. I work with the salient adult in the child’s life, to give them the support needed to enhance the education of their child. The support can be through direct contact, the provision of parent classes and involvement in school activities. The focus, therefore, is to improve the educational outcomes for students.
Home visits
Home visits are a core part of my week. This aims to raise parents’ awareness of the opportunities that are available to their child in school, and it helps to begin building a positive relationship with Coláiste Bríde.
Parent Classes
Throughout the year we offer various activities to help empower and support parents as well as promote the bond between home and school.
My phone number is 083 1134947.
Le gach dea-ghuí,
Eleanor Harpur.
